Scottsdale, Ariz. — An Arizona-based company will be the first national equipment rental chain to convert all of its shops to an environmentally friendly parts washing system.

Rental Service Corporation’s more than 500 branches in the United States, Canada and Mexico are switching from a heavy solvents-based parts washing method to a system that eliminates hazardous wastes, air pollution and safety risks.
The SmartWasher®, developed by ChemFree, is the first complete parts washing system that is both cost-effective and environmentally safe. ChemFree President Frank Marks said Rental Service is the first national equipment rental chain to install his company’s bioremediating parts washing system in all of its locations.

“We couldn’t be more pleased about breaking into the equipment rental industry with such a well-respected company,” Marks said. “We’re glad to support Rental Service as it is finding new ways to protect its customers, employees and the environment.”
ChemFree SmartWashers® deploy select, naturally occurring microbes to breakdown organic compounds such as oil and grease particles. The new equipment, which safely washes away dissolved contaminants, eliminates the need to haul away dangerous toxic waste.

“We’re doing this because we believe it’s in the best interest of the communities we serve as well as our 5,000-plus employees’ safety,” said William Smith, Director of Service for Rental Service. “As a result, we won’t have to file government registrations for hazardous materials, which saves us — and the government — time, energy and money.”

Chief Executive Officer and Chairman Freek Nijdam said the company’s recent decision reflects its underlying commitment to being a socially responsible corporation. “We are making every effort to be a good corporate citizen,” Nijdam said. “We believe that setting high standards for ourselves and continuing to incorporate responsible methods is always in the best interest of our customers.”
ChemFree, of Norcross, Ga., develops parts cleaning systems that reduce the release of harmful organic compounds and eliminate the generation of liquid hazardous wastes for automotive, industrial, government and commercial users. ChemFree customers are located worldwide and include the U.S. and U.K. Postal Services, United States Military, American Airlines, Delta Airlines, CarMax, BMW, Avis Car Rental, Pep Boys, Coca-Cola Enterprises, Chrysler, Federal Express and General Motors.
