ChemFree Receives Clean Air Solvent (CAS) Certification

November 11, 1999 -- New SW-3 is awarded Clean Air Solvent Certification from the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD)

December 17, 1997 -- ChemFree Corporation has been awarded Clean Air Solvent Certification from the South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD). ChemFree submitted three products for testing and all three successfully met the requirements for Clean Air Certificates.

In a congratulatory letter dated December 4, 1997, the South Coast AQMD confirmed that OzzyJuice (SW-1), Heavy Grease Formula OzzyJuice (SW-2), and Low Foaming Degreasing Solution have now been classified as Clean Air Solvents and will be receiving CAS certificates.

The award recognizes products that are helping companies clean up the air by reducing pollutants. Products are tested for VOHAP, ODC, GWC, reactivity and VOCs. All three ChemFree products met CAS criteria in these areas. The CAS certification is valid for five years from the date of issuance and may be renewed upon recertification.

The benefit of OzzyJuice as a clean air solvent is tremendous. Legislation passed in 1996 for implementation at the end of 1998 mandates the removal of solvent tanks from approximately 37,000 businesses in the affected area. The discontinuance of petroleum-based solvent "sink on a drum" type washers will eliminate more than 20 tons of smog-forming VOCs per day. According to a special notice to automotive repair shops issued by South Coast AQMD in December 1997, the amount of pollution coming from these petroleum solvent parts washers is greater than all the pollution form the area's oil refineries. The notice also informed the shops of the upcoming mandatory change.

ChemFree is pleased to offer a safe and cost-effecient alternative to these illegal petroleum solvent tanks. Tom McNally, ChemFree's General Manager, has been tracking this type of legislation for several years. According to McNally, this is the "tip of the iceberg." Several other regulatory bodies have been watching the South Coast AQMD rule develop, and other jurisdictions in and out of California are ready to implement similar regulations.
